On June 12, 2019, the Science and Technology Innovation Port of Western China was unveiled in all directions. This “China’s first university without a wall” has a total investment of 7.53 billion yuan and consists of 48 single projects. It is also one of the super large projects that LOPO terracotta facade panels participate in.

The Science and Technology Innovation Port in Western China-Wisdom Learning Town is a national project jointly constructed by the Ministry of Education and the People’s Government of Shanxi Province. It is an important platform for Shanxi Province and Xi’an Jiaotong University to implement the three national strategies of “One Belt One Road”, innovation-driven and western development , Jointly constructed by Xi’an Jiaotong University and Xixian New District, located in Fengxi New City, Xixian New District, with a total area of 23,000,000 square meters and a construction land area of 10,500,000 square meters. It is positioned as a national mission and a global highland for science and education , Serving Shanxi engine, innovation-driven platform, and demonstration of wisdom learning town.

Chuangxin Port is composed of a core area and an industrial area. The core area is approximately 3,333,333 square meters. It is functionally divided into four major sections, namely the scientific research section, the education section, the incubation section and the comprehensive service supporting section. Among them, the scientific research and education sector is about 1,400,000 square meters, and 8 platforms, 26 research institutes and more than 100 scientific research bases have been established in the four directions of engineering, science, medicine and social sciences.

LOPO has produced 110,000 square meters of terracotta exterior wall products for engineering and scientific research buildings (including 3 huge buildings with an area of 500,000 square meters), which is the first phase of the large-scale project. For this reason, LOPO chose a special kiln for the production of this project, and finally delivered all products within the required 3 months with quality and quantity. In addition, LOPO also arranged full-time technical personnel to provide on-site services, so that the project can be completed in a timely, efficient, and high-quality manner.

The overall planning of Chuangxin Port is based on the principle of humanization, adopts the most advanced international innovative planning concepts, and highlights the characteristics of ecology, livability, technology, and sustainability. The overall layout is divided into five small town style groups, with multi-story and low-rise buildings as the the Lord. The overall architectural style inherits the traditional campus culture and design elements of Jiaotong University, while incorporating European modernist architectural style. Most of the traditional buildings of Xi’an Jiaotong University are red brick buildings. In order to inherit the architectural style of the century-old Jiaotong University. The building of the new campus adopts terracotta panels with brick red combed surface as their main curtain wall material, supplemented by khaki and ochre-colored aluminum plates and stone materials, rendering a solemn tone and an elegance with classic simplicity.

LOPO terracotta facade panels not only meet the aesthetic and functional requirements of the facade design of the project, but also make campus building materials more environmentally friendly. For such large-scale projects, the convenience of the terracotta rainscreen installation system greatly improves the construction efficiency, shortens the construction period, and reduces the total cost. From production to installation, it took only 6-7 months for LOPO to complete the exterior wall construction of 3 mega construction projects. At the same time, the stable technical performance of the terracotta also makes it the best choice for more and more building exterior wall materials.
